#VidyoToolbox: It’s Easier Than Ever To Meet On Time with Vidyo

At Vidyo we believe the user experience is paramount. This belief is what first led us to develop the VidyoWorks™ platform that delivers reliable and high quality video that works over real-world networks. But a great in-call experience doesn’t matter if it is difficult to join the meeting in the first place, so we’ve made scheduling and joining meetings even easier.

We originally started by adding calendar integration to VidyoRoom™ and VidyoPanorama™. With a single push of a button you can instantly collaborate using Microsoft® Exchange® or Google™ Calendar.

Next we moved to our VidyoMobile™ client, by making it easy to schedule meetings using the built-in calendar on your mobile device. Scheduling meetings only takes a single tap inside the VidyoMobile app. Joining from your mobile device is easier too with your current Vidyo meetings displayed inside the VidyoMobile app; just tap to collaborate on the go.

Today, we’ve made it even easier for desktop users to collaborate by developing Vidyo Extension for Microsoft® Outlook® and Vidyo Extension for Google Chrome™.  Scheduling Vidyo meetings is as easy as clicking a button on your calendar. But, what if you don’t have these extensions installed or are not an Outlook or Google Calendar user? No problem! With VidyoDesktop™ v.3.5.2 you can now simply click on the calendar button in VidyoDesktop to schedule a meeting. VidyoDesktop launches the default calendar application installed on your Mac or Windows PC.

#VidyoToolbox: Vidyo Infrastructure 100% Virtualized

Vidyo Interface Vidyo is the leader in virtualized video communications infrastructure. In 2012 we started by virtualizing the VidyoRouterTM, a highly efficient and scalable virtualized media server. In 2013 we added virtualization support for VidyoPortalTM to provide highly scalable call control and management. Last year our focus shifted to virtualizing our interoperability servers, delivering virtual editions of our transcoding and interoperability servers for third party H.323, SIP, Microsoft Lync, and WebRTC. We are excited to announce that we have now extended virtualization support to the final product in our infrastructure portfolio: VidyoReplayTM.  This means all Vidyo infrastructure components are now available and fully supported as virtual appliances. The VidyoReplay VE (virtual edition) delivers all of the same features available in the appliance version of VidyoReplay but in a more flexible virtual appliance form factor. Like the appliance version, VidyoReplay VE can be clustered to scale recording capacity for any sized deployment. VidyoReplay Virtualization In addition to adding virtualization support for VidyoReplay, we have made updates recently to all of our VE products. This includes:

  • VidyoGateway VE and VidyoReplay now automatically detect allocated resources and adjust capacity to fit. This allows you to manage your VM resources more efficiently and optimize your Vidyo deployment specific to your organization’s needs.
  • Virtual editions of Vidyo infrastructure can now be run co-resident with other applications allowing you to utilize CPU resources even more efficiently.
  • The resource allocation and reservation figures have been optimized on most products delivering more capacity per vCPU resource, which is particularly useful when your VMWare environment is limited to 8vCPU virtual machines.

Virtualization doesn’t stop with the data center. Organizations that have chosen to deploy VDI on the desktop no longer have to sacrifice video quality or forgo real-time collaboration in their VDI environment. In the summer of 2014, Vidyo also released VidyoDesktop VE, providing support for Citrix XenApp or XenDesktop. Check out our white paper on virtualization for more information on Vidyo’s virtualized infrastructure and desktop solutions, You can also get more details about the virtual editions from each of the product datasheets or admin guides.

#VidyoToolbox: Better User Experience for Third Party Systems with VidyoGateway

Interoperability with third party H.323 and SIP based videoconferencing systems has always been a hallmark of the Vidyo experience. VidyoGateway™ delivers affordable interoperability that is easy to deploy, manage, and scale. Now, with the release of the latest v.3.2 of VidyoGateway software, new features improve the user experience for participants joining from third party endpoints.

Participants connecting from H.323 or SIP systems can now enjoy a new layout view for multipoint calls. The new gallery view delivers a 7+1 layout with the active speaker prominently displayed and up to 7 other participants located in a strip below.

VidyoGateway Teleconferencing

In addition to a new screen layout, third party endpoints also will receive updated notification information. If the conference is being recorded with VidyoReplay™, both audio and on screen indicators will be played when a recording is initiated. When other participants join or leave the conference, participants on third party systems will receive audio join and leave tones. Whether you’re participating from a Vidyo client or a third party system, you will always know the current status of the conference.

This release also brings added flexibility for administrators of VidyoGateway Virtual Edition (VE). The virtual edition of the VidyoGateway now detects the amount of resources that have been allocated and automatically sets the capacity. This means administrators have the flexibility to size the VidyoGateway to their exact capacity needs to use resources more efficiently. Administrators also have the ability to run multiple instances of the VidyoGateway VE on a single physical host. Combined with the existing VidyoGateway clustering support, the VidyoGateway VE enables high availability and precise sizing of the Vidyo system.

#Vidyo Toolbox: Record Your Video Meetings at Scale with VidyoReplay 3.0

Vidyo Pushes Full Steam Ahead in the World of WebRTC

WebRTC is a great engine for building video collaboration clients and fits perfectly with our existing VidyoWorks™ platform for developers, and complements our existing VidyoConferencing™ product portfolio. That’s why announcing WebRTC support for both, is the natural progression as we take our next step in our WebRTC strategy.

VidyoWorks™ & WebRTC for Scalable video conferencing and collaboration

The announcement includes a new VidyoWorks Java Script (JS) API that allows developers to connect WebRTC clients to Vidyo’s conferencing and communications infrastructure without requiring user installation. The company is also announcing the Vidyo Server for WebRTC that will give users with browsers supporting WebRTC full participant access to Vidyo calls with no download required.

Vidyo has the most advanced, best-performing platform for ultra-low delay, ultra high-quality multi-point video conferences, ranging from mobile screens to 5K.  By choosing Vidyo, application developers can combine the benefits of WebRTC’s open, free, browser-based endpoint architecture with those of a professional, rock-solid back-end that can easily scale to carrier-sized deployments.

At the WebRTC Conference and Expo V, we’ll demonstrate native interoperability of today’s VP8 based WebRTC clients with the VidyoWorks platform as well as our Vidyo Server for WebRTC. #VidyoToolbox: 4K is Now Just a Click Away with VidyoRoom v3.2.4

We just released updated VidyoRoom™ v3.2.4 software, providing users with high quality video conferencing and new scheduling capabilities. Now, VidyoRoom HD230 and VidyoPanorama™ customers have access to an enhanced feature set, including Ultra HD (4K) capabilities unlike any other video conferencing solutions on the market today. Additionally, joining a scheduled meeting from your room system has never been easier with an enhanced calendar integration feature.

Vidyo Panorama

Here are more details on some of new features available with VidyoRoom v3.2.4, available via a free software upgrade included with a customer’s annual maintenance subscription:

  • Phenomenal 4K Performance: Richer collaboration is possible with the ability to display highly detailed content that is greater than HD resolution on a 4K display in full native resolution. No information is lost in down scaling, allowing all participants to see content in full detail. Ultra HD quality is especially helpful when showing dense spreadsheets, fine detail CAD drawings, hi-res artwork for marketing campaigns, or any content where detail matters. Some additional benefits include:
    • In multipoint calls, each participant tile is higher resolution for better clarity. With a 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution display there are enough pixels to view 4 x 1080p participants in native resolution. At that size and quality, you’ll feel like the remote participant is standing on the other side of a glass panel instead of miles away in front of a camera.
    • Customers can save time and money on installations of new rooms by hanging a single larger 4K display rather than multiple 1080p displays.  The result is also aesthetically more pleasing.
  • Exchange Calendar Integration: When scheduling meetings in physical rooms, most organizations reserve the space by adding a Microsoft® Exchange entry for that room to their calendar invite. Now you can associate that active directory entry with the VidyoRoom system so that any meetings booked will appear on the VidyoRoom user interface. Even better, if the meeting is scheduled to have remote participants and includes a Vidyo click-to-connect link, that meeting becomes a single click card on screen so that participants can simply tap to join.  Additionally, the VidyoRoom control API has been extended to enable third party control systems, such as Crestron® and AMX®, to take advantage of the new calendaring functionality. It’s never been easier to join a Vidyo meeting.

#VidyoToolbox: Easier collaboration and improved desktop video conferencing quality with VidyoDesktop v.3.3

Sharing capabilities are crucial in a video conferencing deployment, both from a content perspective as well as user settings. Have you ever been in a videoconference room and wanted to share an important document, but the details were so fine that other participants couldn’t see them well? Or perhaps you just weren’t quite ready to join a call with your video feed live for all participants to see you take a huge bite of your lunch. Our newly released version of VidyoDesktop™ v.3.3 now offers two new sharing capabilities, one enhancing shared content and the other providing users with more control over their initial presence.

Ultra HD (4k) Support

Many organizations rely on video capabilities to complete important tasks and execute on timely business decisions. The ability to share detailed content via a high resolution video connection is exceedingly important across a number of industries – healthcare, design and manufacturing just to name a few. Through Vidyo’s powerful VidyoRouter™ infrastructure, the VidyoDesktop v3.3 client, is capable of transmitting and receiving up to Ultra HD (4K) video. Now when collaborating on content shared during a Vidyo call and using a 4K monitor, you can see highly detailed content with exceptional clarity, and without an interrupted video stream due to high quality content sharing. No more squinting while trying to read detailed blueprints or schematics, or any other document demanding ultra-high resolution; the content is crisp and clear providing rich detail and incredible HD video quality.

Join Call Options

Sometimes you want to join a meeting just to share your screen, or aren’t ready to fully “go live” when joining. New features available in VidyoDesktop v.3.3 let you join a conference just to screen share, or with your choice of camera, microphone or speakers initially turned off so that you don’t get a distracting feedback loop from the room system audio or unintentionally present yourself to all participants when you weren’t prepared. For example, you can join just to wirelessly share over WiFi directly from your laptop into a meeting you’re already participating in over a room system. Or when joining from a noisy environment, you can pre-mute your microphone instead of racing to mute it right after you join.  Of course, once in a meeting, you have full control over your sharing, camera, microphone and speaker settings and can change to another mode whenever you want, and can always see a list of all participants connected to a meeting.

VidyoDesktop v3.3

There are many more great features in this release and they are all available to Vidyo customers with an active support contact. Please check the release notes on the Vidyo Support Portal for more details and software dependencies
