2016 was a tipping point for telemedicine. At the 2017 HiMSS conference, international leaders in health IT are coming together once again to discover and develop the world’s most effective and innovative digital health solutions. Over the last year, we have witnessed telehealth take off – and take on a huge role in the ACA replacement plan – as healthcare providers look to provide higher-quality, more accessible and affordable care.

Today, we are excited to announce the next step in our partnership with Cerner, a global leader in healthcare technology, as the initial pilots of their first fully-embedded Cerner video collaboration solution are underway, seamlessly connecting patients and clinicians face-to-face from within the Cerner environment.

The end goal of our continuing work with Cerner is to increase the ease of use for mainstream telehealth adoption, while offering an affordable solution that leverages healthcare providers’ existing workflow investments. Cerner is exhibiting their integrated solution at HiMSS (booth #2161) in Orlando, Florida from February 20 – 22, 2017.

The economic paradigm shift throughout our healthcare system is causing care providers to take digital transformation – including video collaboration – more seriously. For Cerner users, the ability to join a telehealth session from directly within the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and continue charting during the session, makes the care experience very familiar and natural for the clinician – a feature that is essential for spreading participation in telehealth programs far and wide. Being able to conveniently leverage your existing investment in Cerner, to make telehealth available throughout your system – without having to invest in and manage another solution – is appealing to care providers economically.

Cerner workflow solutions encourage efficiency across the continuum of care, for all patient populations. Embedding high-quality, resilient, mobile-ready video into the Cerner Millennium EHR system, and the Cerner HealtheLife patient portal, using Vidyo, simplifies very complex processes and preserves clinician workflow – letting healthcare providers do more with less.

Creating ease of use, without sacrificing reliability and security, has been a challenge for the healthcare industry to bring digital health tools like telemedicine into the mainstream. To help achieve better care outcomes, while also lowering costs and increasing sustainability, Vidyo’s flexible, enterprise-grade video technology will increase engagement for Cerner customers by keeping patient data and real-time communications in the same place, and closely resembling the in-person experience via video – without unnecessary travel and waiting room bottlenecks.

Healthcare providers today are being urged to do more with less, and telemedicine is strongly increasing access to quality care for all patient populations across the continuum of care. Cerner’s fully video-enabled solution will facilitate post-discharge follow ups, which are key to reducing readmissions, and make standard patient visits far more convenient and accessible. Ultimately, enabling clinicians to see more patients – without spending less time per patient – can result in improved health outcomes and greater patient satisfaction, with higher HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) scores.

We are proud to continue our important partnership with Cerner to make reliable, quality video collaboration simple to embed into the clinical workflow for healthcare providers that rely on Cerner.
